Guide: Merge PDF

This tool joins several PDF files into one new PDF. You decide the order of the files and which pages of each file to include, and you can check pages in thumbnails before merging.

How to use it

  1. Choose two or more PDF files, or choose one PDF if you only want to extract selected pages into a new file.
  2. Arrange files in the desired final order by dragging a file or using the move, sort, or reverse controls.
  3. Enter a page range such as 1-3, 5, or open the page preview and select the pages to include. Leave the range blank to include every page in that file.
  4. Review the file order and selected-page count, then enter a name for the output PDF.
  5. Select Merge and download the result. Open it and check the page order before using or sharing it.

When this tool helps

  • Assemble an application or claim from separate forms and supporting documents.
  • Join scanned pages that were saved as separate files.
  • Combine monthly invoices or reports into one document for filing.

What it can do

  • Drag and drop ordering
  • Choose pages from each file
  • Sort A–Z or reverse the list

Tips for better results

  • Use the page range box to leave out cover sheets or blank pages from a file.
  • Sort by name when your files are numbered, then adjust the order by hand.
  • Open the merged file and scroll through it before you share it.

Limits to know about

  • Password-protected PDFs cannot be merged by this tool.
  • Features such as bookmarks, links and form fields may not carry over to the merged file.
  • Very large files can use a lot of browser memory; merge in smaller groups if the page slows down.

Frequently asked questions

How do I merge PDF files?

Add two or more PDFs, put them in the order you want, choose the pages to include, then merge and download the new PDF.

Can I use only some pages of a file?

Yes. Open a file to see its pages and select the ones you want, or type a range such as 1-3, 5.

How do I change the order?

Drag files to a new position, use the move buttons, or sort A–Z, Z–A or reverse the list.

Will bookmarks and links still work?

They may not be kept. Check the merged PDF if you rely on them.

Why can't I merge my file?

The PDF may be damaged or password-protected. Remove the password in the program that created it and try again.

Are my files uploaded?

No. The merge happens in your browser, and the files are not sent to our server for this tool.
